Machine Tool Technology Academy

The Precision Machining program at the Madison County Career Technical Center is a Dual Enrollment program offered in partnership with Calhoun Community College. Students enrolled in the program may receive both high school and college credit.

Precision Machinists

• Machinists duties involve the  following:
• Read blueprints, sketches, or computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files
• Set up, operate, and disassemble manual, automatic, and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools
• Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpieces
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines
• Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications
• Measure, examine, and test completed products for defects
• Smooth the surfaces of parts or products
• Present finished workpieces to customers and make modifications if needed

Industry Credentials
Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to earn National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Certifications in one or more of the following areas:

Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria to enroll in the Automotive Service Technician program with Calhoun Community College and the Madison County Career Technical Center:

• Must be classified as a 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student
• Have a GPA of at least 2.5
• Have written approval from the Career Technical Center administration
• Complete all required documentation prior to first scheduled class

Tuition Costs
Workforce Development Scholarships are currently available through Calhoun Community College to cover the cost of tuition.

Dual Enrollment Technology scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, textbooks and supplies depending on availability of funds, the needs of the individual student and the requirements of the technical and academic classes.  The scope of each scholarship is determined by available funding and the scholarship grant guidelines.  Costs covered will be determined on an individual basis.

The scholarship funds are contingent upon allocations by the Alabama Legislature. Calhoun has received technology scholarship grants since the program was initiated by the state in 2008, however future grant awards are not guaranteed and will depend on availability of funding through the Alabama Workforce Development program.
